# Relationship between average physical product and marginal

The mathematical connection between marginal product and total product is the relationship between a marginal product, a total product, and an average. Productivity covers many different aspects of a business because of the variables used to determine the efficiency of production. Average and marginal. (d) Draw a sketch graph showing the relationship between the three curves: total product, marginal physical product, and average physical product. 4.

Conversely, the APP is at B, its maximum for the variable factor, only when the other factors are free goods and therefore have zero marginal productivity at this point. Only if all the other factors were free and could be left out of account could the producer simply concentrate on maximizing the productivity of one factor alone.

However, there can be no production with only one factor, as we saw in chapter 1. The conclusion, therefore, is inescapable. A factor will always be employed in a production process in such a way that it is in a region of declining APP and declining but positive MPP— between points D and A on the chart. In every production process, therefore, every factor will be employed in a region of diminishing MPP and diminishing APP so that additional units of the factor employed in the process will lower the MPP, and decreased units will raise it.

It might be asked why we now employ mathematics after our strictures against the mathematical method in economics.

The reason is that, in this particular problem, we are dealing with a purely technological question. We are not dealing with human decisions here, but with the necessary technological conditions of the world as given to human factors. In this external world, given quantities of cause yield given quantities of effect, and it is this sphere, very limited in the overall praxeological picture, that, like the natural sciences in general, is peculiarly susceptible to mathematical methods.

The relationship between average and marginal is an obviously algebraic, rather than an ends-means, relation. Book Information Dedication from Scholar's Edition: Copyright by William Volker Fund and D.

Productivity is, therefore, a way to compare the cost of an item to its benefit. If you have an input of two and output of two, your productivity is lower than if you have an input of two and an output of four. Productivity is a very broad concept used for business and economic analysis. Many factors contribute to the increase of efficiency. However, a business should weigh the efficiency against the expenditure that resulted in the increased productivity. Generally, if cost of efficiency is the same as the productivity you have not achieved efficiency.

Output Output is the number of goods or services made.

On the other hand, producing a product that does not meet quality standards and does not meet the demands of the customer is not efficient regardless of the output. This apparent oversight can be fixed with a few button clicks. First, consider the average physical product for Waldo's TexMex Taco World workforce if Waldo employs only one worker.

With one worker, total production is 20 Gargantuan Tacos each hour. Averaging this total production of 20 tacos over the variable input of one worker, gives an average physical product of 20 Gargantuan Tacos.

Click the [One] button to display the average physical product for one worker. Now consider the average physical product if Waldo's employs two workers.

In this case, the total hourly production is 50 Gargantuan Tacos. Dividing 50 tacos by two workers gives an average physical product of 25 Gargantuan Tacos. Click the [Two] button to display the average physical product for two workers.

Consider one more calculation. If Waldo's employs three workers, the total hourly production increases to 75 Gargantuan Tacos. Dividing 75 tacos by three workers results in an average physical product of 25 Gargantuan Tacos. Click the [Three] button to display the average physical product for three workers.
